GEOFFREY R. HOOKE

Bachelor of Architecture, Melbourne University

Registered Architect ARBV

Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects

Geoff studied architecture at Melbourne University and has had extensive experience in both the public and private sectors of the construction industry.

Geoff established the practice of De Jong Hooke and Associates Pty Ltd. which was highly regarded for its achievements in medium density housing & residential architecture. His abilities in this field have been acknowledged by the Master Builders Association award for the 1993 Home of the Year.

In 1994 Geoff joined with his enduring friend & colleague Stewart Handasyde to form the practice of Hooke Handasyde Architecture which broadly recognised for its contribution to the architecture of Sports & Leisure facilities. In recent years, since 1999, Geoff has been managing the practice of Hooke Architecture which has been fortunate enough to work with various State Government Departments on a variety of health, educational & residential projects including:

– Family Housing & Older Persons Units & Other residential projects.

– Specialist Disability Accommodation & Nursing homes

– Children’s Centres & Schools

– Justice Department Facilities

Hooke Architecture has established a solid reputation for delivering a highly professional service throughout all stages of the construction process from Sketch Design to Contract Administration.

The challenges presented by rapid population growth in the major cities has seen a boost to the resources applied to higher density forms of residential projects. This has created a new series of challenges for the architects & planners including issues of:

– Social equity, sustainability & affordability.

– Innovative & housing models to suit the evolution of urban renewal patterns.

– Simplification of development controls to encourage efficient forms of housing & restrict the urban sprawl

– The establishment of agreed standards for access, amenity, privacy and security in a congested housing environment.

– Political leadership to address the competing demands of Community benefit & commercial greed to meet the future demands of population growth.

Government sponsored and private residential developments have an equal investment in this process to ensure a successful outcome.

Geoff has also had extensive international experience with substantial projects in the United Kingdom, China, the U.A.E and Singapore.
